There’s a woman in Virginia who was just executed for murdering her husband and his son. Do you think she should have been executed? Women and men are eligible for the death penalty in this country? Should we have a death penalty? If so, should women and men be eligible?

(write at least a paragraph in response to this one)

  1. oh wow..thats pretty major. In my opinion i dont think what they did was the best way to punish the woman in Virginia. i mean she murdered her husband and her son but the solution to a murder shouldnt be another killing. what does taking another life solve? I dont think taking a life should ever be a possible solution in any case. There shouldnt be a death penalty. The reason im saying this is because no one ever deserves to die. I understand that one might think that if u take a life u deserve to get your life taken as well but thats inhumane. I think a life sentence is suitable and that the death penalty shouldnt be valid as a possible punishment.

  2. I think that what she did to her husband and son was horrible. Although some may think that she deserves to die, i do not. She should live a life of pain and suffering, but i do not believe in the death penalty. I agree with Fernando. Although some may believe that the woman deserves to die, it is not our place to chose who lives and who doesn't.

  3. ..Well I have to agree with Hannah E..She killed her husband son for who knows what reason. I think she should have a life of misery and suffering. I don't know if they feel a lot of pain in the lethal injection, but it's a quick way to go. They should have let her out in the sun all day without food or water and let her die slow and pianfully. Okay that sounded kind of evil, but she deserves it.

  4. Awe that's so sad for the husband and kid.. No I don't think she deserved to die, because I think everyone should die on their own time and not on someone else's, even if she murdered people. They should have locked her up in jail for life instead of killing her. They basically let her off the hook, instead of punishing her.

I'm completely agreeing with Fernando and Hannah on this one.. I think a life sentence is a real punishment and the death penalty shouldn't be valid at anytime.

  5. unlike any of you, i think we should have the death penalty. its better for everyone, i mean when a person kills another person and the death penalty isnt enforced. where do they end up? in jail, for how long? until they die. and who pays for the prisons? we do, our taxes pay for the prisoners food, clothing, and everything else. so whats the point of having someone in jail for the rest of their life if theyre not of any benefit what so ever to any of us. you might as well end their missery asap and save us the money. i know that sounds harsh and selfish but i mean come on, think about it. do you really want to be paying for the maintenence of someone who has murdered a human being? no! well atleast i dont, my point is, the death penalty is the way to go. it saves money and space in prison.

  6. We should just send all of the murderers to an island and let them take care of themselves. jk but i think that the death penalty is wrong. Like hannah said, its not our place to decide who lives and who doesnt. And are the judges and execution people murderers as well? think about it, they are deciding on the death of a person just as the murderer did.

  7. @randyforeshe7133 that's a good idea! lol no. I don't believe in the death penalty because it's kind of hypocritical. Someone murdered another person, so the system murders them? How does that sound? It's just not okay. I believe in life in prison for sure. But taking another life is just a little too extreme for me. There's got to be another way.

  8. I believe what they did to that lady in Virginia was totally fine with me. This lady KILLED! With the crisis we're having now a day and many economical issues why "waste" money to keep these criminals alive. Many of our parents, peers and friends pay state taxes...for what?!....so these murderers can have dental, medical and physical care. The convicts themselves are among the healthiest in the United States and half the country is suffering with health issues. I don’t believe these men or women should have these constitutional benefits so I believe the death penalty was just fine. Yes Hannah we’re not entitled to choosing who lives and who doesn’t, so let the court decide.

  9. Dang!!Thats some messed up wife and mother! How can she do such a thing? Yes, lots of people think she should get executed by I personally think that she shouldn't. Imagine being in a jail cell for the rest of your life and constantly thinking about the two people you loved that you killed and not being able to escape from that memory? I think thats are worse punishment then just being executed.

  10. Dang manny, I change my mind. KILL THAT LADY!!! I don't want my taxes going to some crazy lady that is going to live a better life than me in prison and killed her husban and wife. MAN FORGET HER!!!

  11. I believe that we only use the death penalty for seviere situations. Kind of like this one since she killed her husband and kid without much motive. But other than that we should not use the death penalty at all.

  12. I believe she should be convicted, it all has to do with justice. This is the reason why compared to so many countries we have many criminlas who get away with things based on " rights", because even criminals have "criminal rights". I think its crazy!I mean if you had the ordacity to kill innocent lives then therfore the death peanlty stands. It goes back to the judicial system in the roman times the penalty was death, now im not saying to go that extreme for every criminal act, but the emphasis was that society understood not to steal, hurt or kill because they knew the consequences of that action. It was based on keeping a society under control and showing them how far their limits were to be, as far as criminal tactics. I mean heck!, even some prisons and jails have air conditioning and t.v's, and this is the reason why most who leave or get out of the prisons, go back to the criminal lifestyle because we have misused and misguided what the word TOLERANCE should really signify! what right does one have to take innocent lives, like she did!

  13. I think if a man is eligible for the death penalty, than a woman should be also. Men and women are both equal, so they should be treated equal. But, I'm against the death penalty because i don't think people should lose their lives over something, they should just be thrown in jail.
I agree with Lauren, taking a life is too extreme and there should be another way.

  14. Its not even about race. If a person does something deserving of the death penalty then they should receive it. I personally would rather not have a death penalty. Why should we give people peace when they caused so many others harm. Let them live with the grief and suffering. If you believe in an afterlife then they go to hell anyway for killing someone. I personally don't believe in afterlife I believe that they are just placed to rest, which they aren't deserving of.

  15. @Randy I totally agree with you! I seriously think they should all live together in isolation.

It would be nice to see that persone gone from the world but an eye for an eye isnt the way to go. Shes being punished for killing because its against the law but if we kill her were breaking our own law. It makes us all look like hypocrites. If she gets killed for killing that would make it ok for other people to be raped for raping or be abused for abusing. I dont think its human to kill another person even if they killed first. I think they should be isolated from everyone else:)

  16. That lady is just sick. What drives a human-being to kill like that? I think that lady in Virgina got exactly what she deserved. The death penalty is always a touchy subject and in most situation I might not agree on it. I don't think anybody has the right to take a life. But she needed to die. I know that sounds harsh. She probably would have killed in prison.

  17. i agree with gomezcaballero09.we should have the death penalty.even though its not good to think, some people actually get whats coming to them.there is no reason to take a life and this woman took two.thats horrible.she knew what she was doing and still decided to go through with it for whatever reason.and if she wasnt given the death penalty, whos to say that she wouldnt do it again?shes done it before.

  18. I have to disagree with FERNANDO. Ibelieve we should have the death penalty but the woman who got executive should'nt have gotten exected. I beleive she should have got a jail sentence. The death penalty should be for those that are repeat offenders for VERY extreme cases male or female. Like if a person has just murdered one person then heor she should get a jail sentence for a long time but if say a person murders lots of people than he or she is a serial murderer and will do it again and he or she should get the death penalty becasue if he or she gets jail time then he or she could get paroled and murder again. Also MANNYIGUESS has a pointit's our taxes paying for the prisons for murderers and rapists to live. I believe in the death penalty.

  19. the death penalty is a very serious issue, because it involves peoples lives. i truly disagree with the death penalty because when it comes down to it i dont think another person should be able to decide another persons faith no matter what the case. it doesnt matter if your a man or a woman i just really dont believe the death penalty is a suitable punishment, that just goes to show what kind of world we live in now when a group of people could decide when a person should have to die.

  20. i agree with fernando i think that they should of gone with a life sentence with that lady or sumthing else because the death penalty is not right. the people who are being executed have families too, so why continue with all of the death and all the pain that comes from losing a family member?

  21. Dang that's intense. ha. I don't think she should have died for it though. Neither men or women should go through the death penalty. Like Martin said we should put them away in jail for life and let them suffer in there for the wrong crime they committed.

  22. I think that what they did to the women wasn't to harsh. She KILLED her HUSBAND and SON! That's serious. She got what she deserved and I do think we should have a death penalty. It's not just a punishement for crimminal's who commit dangerous crimes, but a warning to other's. It says "Hey if you do this, this is what you're going to get." Yes maybe it's not such an efficent warning, because I know ALOT of people commit crimes of that degree, but there are still alot out there who at the thought of the Death Penalty quiver in their pants. So while it my not be an effective method it still stops crime somewhat. And once again I think the women got just what she deserved.

  23. Even though no one has the right to take a persons life I think that women got what she deserved. She is a dangerous women that if they had not killed her she could have put someone else in danger. I also agree with the death penalty because a lot of money is spent on all the prisoners. I think that the money spent on them should be spent somewhere esle where it is actually going to do something good. the prisinoers do not deserve to be fed for free.

  24. I think that if she committed a crime she should be punished for it... whether she is a woman or not.. you do the crime, you serve the time. She executed her husband and son, so of course SHE should be executed. If it was her husband that executed her and her son or daughter, everyone would be dying to ensure he gets the death penalty.. so yes sir she should get it as well... At some extent i think we should have the death penalty here, but then again we dont have that many hasty crimes happen here and when we do, law enforcement never finds the suspect, so maybe that means we need new law enforcement that can actually solve crimes.

  25. i agree with Sal.. i dont think another person should have the power to tell someone else whether they live or not.. but if someone killed another person, what gives them the power to judge and determine whether the person they killed should've had their life taken, no matter what the case.

  26. I agree with joyce. but the woman had no rite to kill her husband and son. so therefore i do think she needed to face the death penalty.anyone who kills another person in my opinion should not live at all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, I believe the death penalty should be enforced. Taking someones life is not exactly okay, and I believe there are consequeces to peoples actions when they take part in such serious crimes. Whether they are sentenced to life in prison, or executed, there is no reason why execution should not be an option. They had killed someone also, it would be the exact same crime but with lawful justification behind it.

  28. I agree with Joyce, although it seems almost wrong to "play God" and determine whether someone lives or not, to begin with, they had no right to take the life of someone else and determine whether they lived or not in that situation.

  29. I agree with Hannah, that woman should have not been given the death penalty. She should have been left to rot in prison. She should have been left to live with guilt on her shoulders for the rest of her life. Because even if she did wake up one day to see that what she did was wrong and that she regretted it enormously, there would be now escape from that epiphany.
    And that's what she deserved.
But who am i to say what someone's fate should have been?
