In the article entitled "Marijuana Bonfire Celebrates a Fragile Calm" by Randal C. Archibold writes that the once known for the drug selling and murderings for drugs, Tijuana, is not becoming a more peaceful due to the "134 metric ton" of marijuana that was destroyed my law enforcements. However, people still wonder if this "peace" will last because of the bad reputation Tijuana has due to violence and 2008's "843" killings. Police officers have to be hard in maintaining peace and order in Tijuana; making it a civil place to live at.
ReplyDelete"Making Hospital Chapel Welcoming to All Faiths" By SCOTT JAMES uses an example of religious integration through the changing of a church chapel in San Fransisco. The chapel used to be predominantly catholic but the hospital has turned the space into a nuetral zone. It accommidates whichever service that is to be held with movable decor. According to James, the changing of this one chapel has brought all the religions together. Many priests, rabbi, and other religios high-powers have contributed and were okay with the decision to change the chapel. Although there were many people against it, the hospital has been recognized as a neutral chapel for any and all faiths. The change was justified buy a "Father" [“All faiths or no faith,” said Father Hocker. ].
ReplyDeleteIn the article titled "Why Can’t Middle-Aged Women Have Long Hair?" the author Dominique Browning explains the troubles and dirty looks she receives from people all around. She fights the people in her life, including co-workers and her own mother, and the people she doesn't even know. Everyone seems to put in their minds that women in their 50's and above shouldn't have long hair. Dominique proves that wrong and thinks of her long locks as a "rebellion". She explains how she takes care of her hair and how she enjoys it whether people like it or not. This middle-aged woman won't be chopping off her hair for anybody any time soon, and will keep her grey strands as natural as ever.
ReplyDeleteIn an article entitled “Why Can't Middle-Aged Women Have Long Hair? ,” the author Dominique Browning writes that once women become a certain, they should cut their hair off. It is not sensible to be 50 years old, with long hair like a teenager. She's not talking about hair a little past her shoulders, but down her back, long enough for a braid. If your happy with it, then who cares? She feels great about her hair, even though her mom and sister hate it. Also, it's graying, but she doesn't want to poison her hair with chemicals. She doesn't care what anyone thinks; she loves her hair and doesn't want to cut it anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteIn an article entitled "Suffolk Police Try to Make Amends with Latinos", the author Sam Dolnick writes that the police officers in Brentwood, NY tried to make peace with Latino Immigrants by haveing a volley ball match with them. The police hadn't realized the violence going on with the Latinos and they felt bad that they had not done anything to help sooner. The Latinos hadn't trusted the Police to play the game with them, but many showed up to play anyways.
ReplyDeleteIn the article entitled "French Senate Passes Pension Bill" written by Steven Erlanger tells about a newly passed bill pruposed by the President regaurding the retirement age. The new age for retirement is now set at 62 and was at 60 before the bill. The age for pension is at 67 instead of 65. Though the government claims that many unions and labor workers will thank them later, the article explains that many people are upset and have complaints with the new bill.
ReplyDeleteIn the article "'South Park' Apologizes for Lifted Material in 'Inception' Parody", the writer Dave Itzkoff tells about how the creators of 'South Park' took lines from the movie 'Inception' and switched them around, making a mockery of the movie. The creators however, did apologize for their actions and says it's just because they did the show in six days.
ReplyDeleteIn the article "How to push past the pain, as the champions do" , the author Gina Kolata tells about the mentality of an athlete. The general focus is the method in which athletes use, to keep going through pain. It's the conseption that through exhaustion and suffering, the athlete presses forward and strengthens their skills. A world class runner has the ability to finish a race, beating their own time, due to pain. Although their face will be drenched with saliva in the end, basically they have a strong enough mind to mentally tell their bodies to keep going. The article expresses that through intensity we are to build character. Like one of the psychologist demonstrated, you have to build upon a routine, and from that routine you are able to work up to your best ability possible. Furthermore that exercises produce great techniques in order to fufill your maximum potential; and to understand the intensity in which the everdays athletic mind goes through.
ReplyDeleteIn the article "Cholera Reported in Several Areas in Haiti" by Donald G. McNeil Jr. he is reporting almost 150 cases of Cholera which can be considered an outbreak. There is fear of it spreading to many other areas of Haiti. Charles Henry Baker, a Haitian Presidential candidate reported that there are people all over the floor of the hospital begging for help.

She does admit the responsibilities that comes along with having long hair,maintenance and putting harmful chemicals in her hair. Her mother and sister thinks that she should cut it but that is her hair and thats how she prefers it to be. Hair does not make the person you are.If she thinks its sexy, it attracts men and that's what she like then no one should be complaining about the way she wears HER hair .

O' Brien writes that some people in Germany actually requested to not be seen on Google's Mapping Service before the program was even activated which was not done before.Germans who requested not to be seen will be blurred so they whouldnt be able to be seen in the program.they will be able to do this because of all the requests from the 244,000 people being 2.9 million people of 8.5 million.
ReplyDeleteIn an article titled, "A Grim Portrait of Civilian Deaths in Iraq" the authors Sabrina Tavernise and Andrew W. Lehren write an elaborate version of the WikiLeak report that didn't give a complete picture of how many civilians were killed and who had killed them. Two days that were most memorable were August 31, 2005, where 950 people died from a stamped. And on August 17, 2007, 500 people were killed by multiple trck bombs. But the catalyst for it all was in December of 2006 when about 3,800 civilians died. There is an organization call Iraq Body Count that was created by the Bush administration was called "unreliable" and "produced inflating numbers" had found 15,000 deaths that had not been listed.

One of the worst and most gruesome days in the war was on August 31 in 2005 were more than 950 civilians were killed. Another bad day was August 14 2007, more than 500 people were killed by a sort of bomb called a truck bomb. The death toll of civilians is very high now and its a sad fact.
ReplyDeleteThe article "Use of Drug Challenged in Death Penalty Case" written by JOHN SCHWARTZ is about a how Arizona convicted a man in 1990 and plan to end his life next week by execution with certain drugs that are used for execution but his lawyers are arguing on how one of those drugs isn't good enough and just delay the process. They are trying to delay the execution until Arizona admits to where they obtained it's supply becasue they could have gotten it overseas which then it could defy the Food and Drug Administration guidelines. Kent Scheidegger the legal director of the "Criminal Justice Legal Foundation" argues that if it come from a legit manufacturer and not made in a garage then it shouldn't matter where it's from. The FDA has to detect wheter the drug is safe and operative but this case they are two different things. Megan who is an advisor on injection issues argues that the origin of the drug is very important becasue of credibility. An assisstan attorney general argues that the criminal is out before given the last dose of the drug. The ammount given to the prisoners is alot more than just 10 times the dose that is recommened. If the judge insisted on wanting to know where the drug is coming from then is would be said in private so it wouldn't be known to the public.

Pennant," the author Kenneth Plutnicki writes about the how the Texas Rangers beat out The NY Yankees to go into their first world series in team history. They won the series 4 games to 2 playing against one of the best teams in baseball history. The game ended 6-1 against a strugglind Yankees team. The Rangers will play either the San Francisco Giants or the Philadelphia Phillies when their own game 6 starts Saturday with the Giants leading the series 3 games to 2.
ReplyDeleteIn the article "Cholera outbreak Kills 150 in Haiti" Donald G. McNeil explains about the disease that has been haunting the Artinoite Valley, a refugee camp in haiti. There has already been 150 people death because of the disease cholera which causes the person to dehydrate from sever vomiting and diarrhea. They got this disease by drinking water from the St. Marc River and now the Operation Blessing International has been providing water for the people. Specialist say that it will be hard to get rid of the disease because once it starts spreading it is hard to control it.

ReplyDelete..In the article "‘South Park’ Apologizes for Lifted Material in ‘Inception’ Parody" by Dave Itzkoff talks about how the creators of South Park poked fun at something too much and had to apologize for their actions. The had to call a web show who did a parody of the movie "Inception". In a recent South Park episode, the show used some of the same lines and changed only a few words. In the end all ended well and the creators of the show were forgivien.

Whether it be boredom or ridiculous posts about politics and religion, they dont seem to be the same reasons as to why u would give up a real friendship. Also that a friendship in real life would be alot harder to give up rather than a friendship where you just click a button to delete.

Touched analysis retrieved new DNA of a unidentified male that was not anyone in the Ramsey family.

ReplyDeleteIn the article "Mexican Authorities Burn 134 Tons of Marijuana," by Randal C. Archibold, it is said that authorities have seized 134 metric tons of marijuana in the city of Tijuana, Mexico. This is the largest amount that has ever been seized in the country. It is said that there is not much violence going in this year, at least not as much as last year, which was 843 killings, but this year the count is up to 639 killings. The question is; should this be considered as a sign of a little bit of peace? No one knows this but it is greatly doubted.
ReplyDeletemanuel said... the article i chose to summarize is "Staten island teenager tried to join talibn" by william k. rashbaum. a teen decided he'd join the taliban by enlisting in the united states army and when he'd get to pakiston (flight was aborted) he'd betray his own country. this teen would go on the opposing side. luckily this teen was caught in hawaii and they found out he tried to recruit others as well.
