Friday Writing 1 of 3

Was the first big essay, the Restaurant Review, difficult to write, easy to write, fun to write, or something else? Describe the process of writing that first essay for this class.

  1. The first essay was pretty simple. We knew what we needed to write, basically, our experience at a restaurant. The hard part for me was coming up with clever adjectives for what i was seeing and feeling while at this restaurant. I wasn't happy with the usually adjectives like hard, soft, cold. So i tried to make it better and more appealing.

  2. The first essay overall was pretty fun. We got to go to a restaurant and write about it. The process was easy to. All you really had to do was pay attention to the details of the restaurant: the food, the service, it's appearance; and then write about it. It made it even more fun if you got to go with friends or family members. Finding different way's to describe the food was pretty difficult, because you wanted to make sure you didn't repeat yourself, but I had fun!

  3. I thought the writing essay was fun! The prompt made writing very appetizing! :) I thought the writing process was pretty easy. I went to the restaurant that I was going to write about with my cousin. I took a notebook with me and as I noticed good, bad, funny, or something memorable from my experience there, I wrote it down. The hard part for me was writing with a lot of description. I knew what I wanted to say about the taste and feeling of the food, but once I was going to write it down, I didn't know what to write. Overall, I thought this assignment was fantastic!! :)

  4. The process for the first essay we had to write was an enjoyable one. It was creative and i loved the topic we were given. I mean it was about food and i absolutely love food. Not only the food but the environment we were exposed to while we were eating. I enjoyed being able to describe every aspect of what was going on in the restaurant also. i also took enjoyment from knowing that we couldnt really mess up on the essay. mainly because all u had to do was describe what the five senses were like while in that restaurant. The taste, the smell, what u saw, what was heard, and what and how u felt.

  5. I thought the first essay was pretty basic and easy. I thought it was fun that we got to go out to eat for this essay, which I have never got to do before. For the process, i picked where i wanted to eat and created an outline of how i was going to write the essay. Then i wrote questions on a paper and took them with me to the retaurant and answered them as i was experiencing my restaurant. Overall, i thought this was a pretty fun assignment and i would like to do more like this. (:

  6. This assignment was torture! No, I'm kidding. It was the complete opposite; I had fun getting all "concrete detail" on my paper and I liked the fact that I could have that experience with whomever I wanted. And it was great that it allowed some of me to come out in the writing, so it was much more comfortable doing this assignment as opposed to, as you said Dr. Schmoll, writing a formula. It was a great start for many essays to come.

  7. The first essay was pretty easy. All we really needed to do was eat and say if it was good or not, and in detail. It was actually really fun because we got to do it on our own time and like Gina said, it was cool that we got to do it with anyone we wanted to! I picked a restaurant and went out with friends and payed attention to everything so carefully and wrote down what I liked and what I didn't. It was cool to mix homework with food!

  8. hmmmm, how could we replicate this sort of assignment on other essays?

  9. To me, this essay was pretty simple. It was fun at the same time because we had to eat which required to get us involved in our writing. It wasnt just writing, it involved a little more than that. Thats what I liked about this essay. I also enjoyed the fact that we werent confined to any certain place or type of resturant. The process was first to experience what we were to write about and take notes. From that, we wrote rough drafts, and then finished it with a final draft.

  10. The essay was fairly easy for me. It forced me to be creative and think out of the box to create great descriptions. Like Amanah said it was good to be able to mix food with homework and it gave us a different a way to look at restaurant and the detail of it all. We can replicate this assignment by doing reviews of other types of businesses. My writing process was also pretty simple. I first went to the restaurant and took notes on paper and mental notes. I did this to remember every detail of the restaurant, big and small. I then went home and researched more information on the place that I ate at. Then I just began writing.

  11. I wouldnt exactly say the essay was easy... I had to go back and recall the memory, but it became quite fun once I did that... Remembering the laughs we had & how great the food tasted was a positive thing. I feel like since we started with this essay, it was like a warm up to get us in the habit of writing again. For me, and maybe for others, I havent written since before high school was out. Maybe thats what might have made it a little challenging for me. But overall, it was actually pretty fun. In most essays you actually have to be proper and cant really show any enthusiastic emotions through jokes, but I like that we were able to do that with the restaurant review. Its an example of something I would definitely like to do again.

  13. The restaurant review essay was fairly simple. The most difficult part, for me was at least, was writing a strong and entertaining introduction. I took enough notes to easily flow through my paper once i got the intro. It was a new kind of writing for me but it was fun. I wont not mind doing it again.

  16. well the process of the first essay was very enjoyable and it was a fairly easy essay and topic. i really enjoyed it because we were able to go to a restaurant and eat some great food and learned how to write a restaurant review for later on if we ever would have to use it again. for the essay i had to be very harsh and real so i could give a good review but in the end the restaurant was real good and i had a good time doin the essay.

  17. @ Dr. Schmoll I think we can replicate this essay by next time going to a sport game or watching it or aan event that we attended .

  18. The process of the first esssay was very easy i really enjoyed doing it. It didnt take up to much time either. I think it was so easy because it was our own opinion so no one could tell us if we were right or wrong. It also gave us the opportunity to show our writing abilities and use concrete details but overall i really enjoyed doing this and wouldnt mind doing it again on another topic.

  19. I enjoyed working on this because i was able to go and pick the restaurant i wanted and show in my way why i liked it so much. But it was a little challenging for me to find more descriptive words to describe in parts of my essay.

  20. I really enjoyed the restraunt review assignment. Especially the part of getting to eat a delicious meal. It was a bit challenging as far as structure goes, i was a little lost, but overall the assignment was really fun.

  22. I think the first essay was pretty easy because I know the enviroment to the restaurant i chose since I go there at least once a week so I knew what to write about and it gave me an excuse to go there more than I usually do I just kept telling my mom I needed to go for a homework assignment! Haha.
I agree with Sal, it was very enjoyable and we learned how to do a restaurant review and we could use that knowledge for future assignments.

  23. To answer Dr. Schmoll's question to replicate this assignment we could do an ice cream place review!!!!!

  24. I agree with Hannah. It would bew nice if all the essays were similar to this.

  25. the first essay wasnt very difficult..i enjoyed writing it and what i liked the most was the fact that we had to eat in order to write the essay! we should do more of these assignments..i think it was fun pretty fun to write it. i really hope we do more assignments like this one..

  26. So I failed to mention my process!
I took careful notes on my cellphone, so it appeared I was texting but I was in fact diligently taking notes on every detail that spoke to me.

  27. This first essay was soooo different from other essays! It didnt require for us to fry our brains like other essays do.
The process was a little messy. I got food on my notes so when i was trying to look back I had smudges everywhere, but overall it wasnt very difficult.
    I enjoyed it:)

  28. This first essay we wrote was very fun. The fact that I had to eat something and do homework about it was the best part :) The hardest part for me was ordering my thoughts together. Then I struggled a little bit on the describing and adjective part. I knew what i wanted to say but i didn't know how to say it on the paper.

  29. I agree with Martin. I knew what to say about the food but once I began my paper, I didn't know what to say.

  30. I thought that this essay was going to be simple because we just had to describe the food and the environment of the restaurant. Then i started to write my essay and my brain went blank I didnt know how to start and what vocabulary to use. I didnt want to be repetitive using good and delicious all the way through the essay so I had to be more creative and use different words. Apart from that I thought that it was a great essay and hopefully the other essays we do are as simple as this one.

  31. I agree with anaizable, i didn't have to use my brain at all compared to other essays that i have had in the past.

  32. ..I think it was a little harb because i haven't wrote anything in three months..ha..but I liked it because i've never had an assignment where I had to eat and I can get an A.

  33. Unlike many of the comments, I had a pretty difficult time writing this. It was fun nonetheless because of the attention from the restaurant. But I am not used to writing anything that doesn't have a plot or use a reson as a purpose. So it was pretty hard. I couldnt think of what to say without almost making it into a story. but i did it. somehow.

  34. For my process . . . I wrote down all the things that really stuck out to me in a notebook. Then I just started writing based off of those notes and ended up with what i had. I think I did pretty well considering I had really no idea what I wrote. lol.

  35. The first essay was actually a fun assignment. It was something new that I've never done before. I think the fact that there were no specific guidlines, or a certain structure to follow was what made it better than any other type of essay that I've had to write.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It seems like everyone enjoyed the assignment. You can't go wrong with an assignment with no outline to follow and requires you to eat!

  37. i thought this essay prompt was intresting. i enjoyed going to red lobster and writing a review for class. of course writing is the most difficult part of the assignment but envolving it with things we can actually do and experience; makes it better.

  38. i thought it was fun because im always criticizing everything already and this gave me a chance to write it for an assignment.and im also going to be able to let people know if the restaurant is good or bad.myshayla is right.its awesome to not follow any format and being able to eat.
sorry this is late but i finally did it.

  39. Well it was a little difficult for me to come about to doing the actual essay cause for one I'm really not a picky eater so I knew anywhere I thought would be a fine place to eat at most would think was mediocre. haha so I was a little iffy about that, my second issue was trying to find a place to eat at, because I dont know Bakersfield very well, so I just decided to eat at a restaurant on campus:p but the paper itself wasn't too bad!
