  1. I like the quote its very vague and misterious it makes you think of what it could say. haha, yea we need a quote ... "The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!"

  7. I see the quote. haha. Im going to have to agree with this quote. Dora is a person who gets along with everyone, no matter the language or race. So to me, that could possibly the height of the american culture. But then again, it is just a cartoon.

  8. I agree with the quote. One of the most important aspects of American Culture, atleast for someone with a different language or race, is to come to this country to improve yourself, and make a living thats better than the country you came from. Dora, though a cartoon, is famous, successful and is living the "American Life".

  9. Hmm ,I think the quote is addressing that our culture is based upon finding something in life or the action of helping someone, while keeping family values at best.In other words as Americans our goals tend to lean towards achieving or finding a route in life, in order to get where we need to be. Like dora the explorer, our American values do demonstrate helping others througth charities, organizations and ect. In my opinion, I would say dora the explorer does set the same American values that this country tends to lean towards. But as for the height of American culture I must disagree. I disagree on the basis that American culture is much more than a charity or achievemnt to find something. But instead a lifestyle that at times will have negative issues; compared to Dora the explorer, which only demonstrates a happy go lucky motive. Even when a small negative aspect does occur, the series is not real life. If height, being used as the heighest state of development, for american culture is Dora the explorer, then the question arises where have our standards for American culture been set?

  10. Dora is a cartoon!!! i disagree with the quote that she is "the height of american culture." she brings up a good concept of understanding other cultures and accomplishing goals but she doesn't have to deal with relationships, drugs, bills, etc. im pretty sure dora would go far and beyond to find a bag of cookies with her talking map but she doesn't have problems that the average american faces now a days.

  11. I agree with the quote. The reason being is that Dora is a cartoon character who does not view race or anything of that nature. The show demonstrates positivity in progressing in language development. It does not include any of the negativity life may carry when in new surroundings. Only the improvements one may gain to better one's self. American culture is not just the English language in my opinion. I believe it is the mix of diversity in America which makes our culture so rich.

  12. I have to agree with mannyiguess to be the height of American culture you have to stand for everything that is real to an American. While the cartoon is very cute, it isn't realistic in any way and our country is all for realism and telling it like it is. Strangely enough I believe that a show like Family Guy would be the height of American culture. Family Guy kind of exposes the American culture as a joke, yet it's all true.

  13. I disagree with the quote because I think that although Dora does help people and explore things, she doesn't have a clue on the real world of America. I had to read the quote like 5 times to make sure I read it right.. Out of all cartoons, Dora??? How about superman? He even dresses in red, white, and blue :)

@Manny^ said exactly what I was thinking about how she doesn't have to deal with the real world.. (Death, Drugs, Bills, etc...)

  14. I would agree to this quote, but that would be going against what I believe. Dora does show good qualities like helping other, being kind and making friends. This might be true about some american families but more often than not you'll find that people would rather help themselves before helping others. Thats just the reality of our world and its only getting worse.

  15. I disagree with the quote because Dora the Explorer is merely a cartoon character, I fail to see how an adolescent language developement animation can be considered the height of American culture. haha but hey I mean whatever gets the kids to learn right.? I'll complain when kids are incapable of picking up a second language haha. as far as if there is anyone I may agree with, Id have to reply:
    @mannyiguess..
    SERIOUSLYY SHE'S A CARTOON.!!! hhahahaha

  16. I would have to agree with the quote. ALthough Dora is a kid´s show and it does not look at the world in a realistic sort of way it does speak alot about American culture. In Dora we see alot of the different races and cultures that exist in the world. We see they way they blend and accept each other to create a world where everything is happy and well, a world that sadly is not like our own. Dora might be the most watched kids show in all the world and the reason I think this is, is because of the different cultures that exist in it. People can relate to what is on the show and I think that´s why it´s at the height of American Culture.

  17. @ Classmates I agree with majority of you all. Although she doesnt have to deal with the bad stuff in life she do however teaches younger ones who watches the show respect, sharing and helping others they even learn another language. Example my little 3 year old brother learned a couple of words from her. The show also shows a theif (swiper)..So if you take something of my little brother he says " swiper no swipping" lol

  18. I have to say i disagree with the quote. No offense towards Dora ha because she is afterall one of our greatest explorers of all time. Even with her capability of capturing the many minds of children, shes still not the height of American culture. She does not have to face real life trials and thats why i disagree,, its still a pretty good show though haha.

  19. @ classmates, It is true that she doesnt have to endure real life situations as adults do. If she did, it probably wouldnt be a kids cartoon. Just a thought.

  20. I like this quote because it reminds me of my little sister who is in love with dora. But, I watch the show a lot and i don't see it teaching so much American Culture as The Hispanic Culture.

I agree with sal because she doesn't have to face the difficulties in lifee that we do.

  21. I have to agree with the quote because Dora gets a long with everybody she encounters. America is made up of foreign people that we see everyday in our lives. It is important that we learn about different cultures and races around the world.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with Sal as well because she does not face the difficult challenges in life.

    ReplyDelete
  23. In response to Hector's comment; Dora might get alone with everyone but the gangs of America don't. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i totally disagree.how can any cartoon character be anything for a whole culture???they cant.i get if it was a past president or something, but a cartoon???not going to happen.like many of you said, she doesnt deal with real life challenges and problems.who actually deals with all the stuff she does???

    ReplyDelete
  25. Agree!
Dora is like most of us in this generation.
Dora and ourselves dont discriminate against races or sexual orientation as much as people used to.

    ReplyDelete
  26. this is kind of random but does anybody know if we have to pass all 15 sections on the diagnostic tests by monday or just take them???

    ReplyDelete
  27. To:All yea now that I've read them all I'm a little confused. but everyoine makes a viable point.

I disagree with the quote. The essence of a young girl blending her two cultures to interact with America and to solve her friends problem's isn't what America has heightened to (i have no idea if that's a word.) But Dora is a great example of the blending and evolving of cultures it just isn't the height.

  28. I think Dora was a success here in America because many small latin kids saw themselves in her because she is latin. I think one day it will be the American culture because there is more and more latin people here in the United States. Right now though it is not consider the American culture because the culture still differs from latin culture which is what Dora the Explorer has in the cartoon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well like I think the quote is trying to say that our culture is mostly about the media. Like the importanat thing is what's on tv. Like what's cool to watch. The height of the American culture depends on what's cool at the time.

It's kind of like what Sal said Dora captures the mind of many children. TV captures the mind of almost everyone in the American culture.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ..I have to agree with Sal and disagree with the quote. Dora does deal with certain problems that we face, but the biggest ones. She just teaches kids how to count and not tell lies. I don't think she is the height of American culture but she can be very close. It's a greeat show though ha..

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know that it's the height of children's American culture, not so much as everyone else's. Especially the latin population in the states.
The show teaches morality, mannerisms, and even some Spanish. But I disagree that it involves all other aspects of American culture.

@reyes_kim15 : You made a good point; America is very dependent on the media.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I disagree with quote because I feel like it's trying to say that American culture has come together as one to where a whole society can watch or engage in a tv show about a latina child. Our culture has not reached that level because us as Americans fail to do so, instead we continue to discriminate & look down upon minority ethnicities everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I didn't even think of the quote the way that Giovannieomar did. It's very interesting how they thought of Dora in American culture as what is and teaches to other Americans.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree and disagree with this quote. At a certain extent Dora is the height of our culture today. Many children get attached to her and the way they act or maybe even talk is influenced by her. To another extent I think the height of our culture is more with music. People still watch television, don't get me wrong, but music impacts everyone's lives, not just the lives of children.

  35. Classmates.. I feel like this quote is something deeper than just a latina cartoon character getting along with everyone... i

  36. I agree with the quote. Dora is bilingual and intelligent for a young explorer. My cousins grew up watching Dora and they have started to learn their second language at the ages of 4 and 6. I watched Barney and I still remember the songs, but that's about it!
